Imaginary View

Made with designer and long time collaborator Rachel Thomas over a two years period. A series of landscapes constructed entirely out of polystyrene, a material often used in large scale film sets.

The pieces including a city floating on an 8 metre lake of milk. With influences from Piranesi, De Chrico, Disney and Memphis, huge pieces were made and photographed in-camera in studio settings. The project also makes use of a forced aerial perspective, the natural phenomenon that creates depth by the scattering of light.

“We were looking to create forms that are instantly recognisable, but also uncanny and able to convey the seductiveness that only comes from something that’s not quite real," says Thomas.

A series of limited edition larger pigment and smaller photogravure prints are available to buy. Please contact Paul Stolper Gallery at info@paulstolper.com with regards to the photogravure prints and hannah@dantobinsmith.com for more information on the larger pigment prints.
